Through my work I’ve always tried to reveal themes that society seems to suppress: the tortures and torments, the physical and psychological annihilation, the humiliation of human dignity that people suffer everyday within the institutions of retaliation.
As members of society we define rules, values, morality, power, the rich and the poor, imprisonment and freedom. In other words we define the rules and banish those who break them; we define the “healthy” people and banish the “unhealthy” ones.
In this context we built big cages on every corner of the world celebrating solutions about everything:
Cages – dungeons for human beings who struggle and claim a better world. Cages for those who break the rules. Cages for men, for women, for children. Cages for the “healthy”, cages for the “unhealthy”. Thousand of forgotten souls in institutions of retaliation struggle for life and freedom while suffering daily tortures. Crying out for help against a cruel, heartless and unfree society. But their struggle does not touch us, neither concerns us.
We build cages not for correction, nor for remediation. The cages exist as fear, punishment, a storage of souls. There, in timeless darkness, will always be imprisoned souls shedding light upon the dark societies we build.
Managing to demolish the room, the chair, the corner punishment; it will bring us closer to a better world.
Let’s destroy the cages of retaliation. Let’s fight for life and freedom.
